After care
Buying furniture from CHEK concepts is a good choice all round. Our beautifully designed furniture are crafted using solid natural materials. We use finishes that are kind to the material, people and to the environment; this means our products can be maintained, renovated and if necessary restored to new condition over many generations conveniently and sustainably.
“Making a connection with your furniture through care and maintenance is the only way they can survive and live into the next generation.”
Linseed oil

Once you receive your furniture, the wood is surface-treated and the furniture is ready to use, but be aware that it may take a couple of weeks before linseed oil has fully hardened, so be extra mindful with the surfaces for the first time. Never leave wet or damp objects or let liquids sit as this can lead to the appearance of water spots. Table surfaces need refinishing during the first months, other furniture when the surface starts to look dry (once or twice a year, depending on wear and tear).
We like to oil our furniture with plant-based oils as it preserves the wood's natural feel, provides good protection and allows the wood to breathe. We recoment that once you have maintained your furniture with a specific product that you keep up with the same treatment. A linseed-oiled oak piece of furniture should continue to be maintained with linseed oil. We recommend our hot-pressed linseed oil, which has a small addition of local beeswax for additional protection of the surface.
Linseed oil is not just kind to you but also kind to the environment which means that its benefits today have repercussions in the future.

Wax White

For white-oiled oak furniture, we recommend "OSMO Hard wax oil white". If you have white-oiled birch furniture, on the other hand, "OSMO Maintenance wax white" is better suited. The maintenance products must be applied thinly in the direction of the grain of the wood and worked in until the surface feels dry. To get a higher finish and remove possible fiber rise, a super fine sandpaper (400-600) is used before and after the treatment.
Hard Wax Oils are a blend of natural oils and waxes that provide a subtle white layer to wood while allowing its natural paterns to show.

The soap treatment means that the surface is protected by saturating it. Table surfaces that are used a lot should always be dried and cleaned with soap, preferably once a week at first.
Vegetable soap flakes are used both for surface treatment of furniture and as cleaning of wooden surfaces. The dry flakes are mixed with water to make a soap mixture. The soap flakes we use are Nordic Ecolabelled and recommended by the Asthma and Allergy Association. Dosage: 0.25 dl dry soap flakes are diluted with 0.9 liters of hot water. Stir until the soap flakes are thoroughly dissolved. Allow the soap solution to cool before application. Do this: If the furniture is stained or dirty, it is recommended to first sand it with fine sandpaper (grit 240). The soap solution is applied to the wooden surface with a soft cloth or sponge. When the furniture has dried for a day, it is lightly sanded with a fine sandpaper, for an even and smooth surface. Always sand in the longitudinal direction of the wood. Tip! Store ready-mixed soap in a glass jar under the sink for everyday maintenance.
